A contemporary family home that is both relaxed for everyday family living, whilst striking & functional for regular entertaining & holding the clients’ company corporate events.

    Design Brief:

To create a contemporary family home that is both relaxed for everyday family living, whilst striking & functional for regular entertaining & holding the clients’ company corporate events.

As the house is big enough to accommodate dedicated rooms, rather than the need to be multi-functional, each room needed to be tailored exactly to how they would be used, allowing for more creative freedom for design aesthetics within each zone.

To push the clients’ boundaries on contemporary design as the clients have historically opted for a more classic & traditional design.

    Key aspect of the project:

Creative freedom to push the clients’ boundaries & imagination, working with a blank canvas as the property was a new build.

Why does the design work so well?

As the clients’ children have recently grown up, the worry was the house might feel too big when it is just the 2 of them there, with lots of areas getting unused. With the feel of open plan living, yet still zoning off key areas for everyday living, the space feels proportionately right, which is enhanced by the flow of texture, colour & furniture layout.

How do you feel the design integrates into the wider environment?

By using as much natural textures where possible, complimenting the large windows with simple soft furnishings to help frame the fantastic view.

What specialist or artisan skills were involved in the making of the project?

    Carpentry

    Handblown glass

Bespoke soft furnishings, upholstery & re-upholstery

    Handwoven silk rugs

  • Fashionable Villa With Rich Feng Shui

Julian and his wife, Mana, a fashion designer, chose the 3,500 sq ft, five-storey house they have now been living in for 18 months for its stunning views over the country park, Plover Cove Reservoir and the South China Sea.

“It is a famous feng shui area because you can see three ‘dishes’ of water – the reservoir and the sea on either side of an island – which is a sign of very good fortune. There are green mountain views and we can also see the Kwun Yum [statue] from our rooftop on a clear day,” says Chan. “I love it because we are so close to nature – you can hear the birds sing during the day and the insects whistling at night. One of our priorities was the private glass-fronted terrace [with water wall] so we could take advantage of our natural environment.” Continue Reading
