Welcome to The Art Of Design
  • ON THE DESIGNER’S AGENDA AT JANUARY FURNITURE SHOW

Making a welcome return to the NEC in Birmingham after 16 years, Michael Tyler is the latest high profile name to join the impressive line-up for the 2017 January Furniture Show (January 22-25).

Designers will now be able to view contemporary, high quality upholstered furniture from one of Britain’s leading independent manufacturers at the exhibition. The award-winning company has been at the forefront of British upholstery design since it was founded in 1976. It is using the 2017 exhibition to launch a brand new collection to add to its well established Michael Tyler and Quadro ranges.

Said Steve Smedley, managing director of Michael Tyler: “The last time we exhibited at the NEC in January was 2001 but we feel the time is right for us to exhibit once again. The new show offers an ideal opportunity to present our latest collection to a wide audience.

“Exhibiting at trade shows is becoming increasingly important, as retailers have less time to leave their stores and visit individual manufacturer’s showrooms.”

Other ‘must-see’ exhibitors for designers include the collaboration between Whitemeadow and Content by Terence Conran which will be launched at the show. The new Plus Collection harnesses the design and fabric flair of the Conran team with the commerciality of the Whitemeadow organisation. Four new models will be unveiled at the show which are designed to complement the cabinet ranges from Conran.

Heading into its 10th year in business, Stuart Jones will be exhibiting its new handmade deep buttoned upholstered bed ranges. Its Rossini bedstead will be shown in cool silver metallic with highlights of gold to provide an exciting visual balance.

Abode, the brain child of David Langford and David Imrie brings together years of experience and a unique understanding of the Vietnamese furniture industry and UK trends. Three new collections of upholstery and cabinets are being launched from three new to the UK, factories. Arreda is a collection of shabby chic, casual loose cover upholstery combining fabulous comfort with a lush modern twist; Ikon features nine dining and occasional ranges in a variety of timbers with a casual, modern style; and Casarredo combines contemporary soft cover and leather upholstery with real style and great value.

Bluebone will be showcasing unique twists on mid-century design elegant minimalism inspired by the birdcage look and more.

Laraine Janes of the January Furniture Show said: “Designers attending the show will find an array of inspiration from the many beautiful stands, product designs and concepts. We are excited that the calibre of companies exhibiting is very high for 2017, so it is the perfect show at the perfect time of year to see what trends lie ahead.”
