  • iF design awards for Leimu and Vakka

Iittala’s internationally acclaimed design language continues its story with an extended interior collection. The Leimu lamp and Vakka storage box have been awarded the prestigious iF product design award. Leimu is a new lighting piece by young Norwegian-born designer Magnus Pettersen. As its flame-evoking name suggests, the copper-brown Leimu creates a relaxed atmosphere for enjoyable moments in good company. With its strong concrete base, the impressive glass lamp portion, inspired by traditional lampshades, makes Leimu a brand-new lighting fixture where sensitivity encounters strength.

Magnus Pettersen Studio is a design studio creating furniture, lighting and home accessories. His style is referred to as “industrial luxury” because opposites are a recurring feature in his work. Pettersen looks at how well different materials or colours merge in an interesting and functional way without prejudice.

Iittala’s new storage solution –  Vakka plywood box by Elina and Klaus Aalto – offer solutions for everyday storage problems. The design of these sturdy, multipurpose objects reminds us that storage, which is an essential feature of every home, can also be a beautiful part of the interior.

Elina and Klaus Aalto share the desire to create functional, aesthetic and emotional objects that bring something new to the material field. In their work, they strive to find new points of view for everyday objects.

The awarded products were selected from total of 3,249  entries, judged by a jury consisting of 49 experts. The awarded products are displayed in the iF design exhibition in Hamburg 21.6.-21.9. The award ceremony will take place at the BMW Welt in Munich on 28 February 2014.
